Afriflora Sher in Ethiopia

Afriflora Sher is the world’s largest rose grower and has multiple nurseries in Ethiopia. They have three schools of their own and a hospital; we support Sher with several projects.

Project Mela for Her
350 girls were distributed reusable menstrual kits at one of the nursery’s schools. Many girls do not attend school during their periods. That’s why discussing and distributing the packets is very important.
Every year we make sure that new 11-year-old children get a packet and that each packet is replaced in time. Now they can just go to school every day!

Projects Hospital
In 2020, Afriflora Sher installed a new X-ray machine worth over $50,000 at Sher Hospital, provided by Dutch Flower Foundation. At Sher Hospital in Ziway, which functions as a regional hospital, more than 100,000 patients are treated annually for a variety of reasons. The 12,500 employees and 6,500 children from the schools, receive free care at this hospital.

In 2024 the hospital was able to commission a new laboratory machine. Van Dijk Flora and the Foundation donated this together. This fully automated BS-200E chemistry analyzer has a capacity of 200 test per hour. It can perform multiple tasks: organ function tests such as kidney function tests, liver function tests, electrolyte tests and others.
